Technology

Making San Antonio Smart and Accessible

 INTRODUCTION INTRODUCTION INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION

Technology is all around us. It’s in our hands, on our wrists, in our cars and even in our shoes. There’s not a thing that we touch that hasn’t been enhanced or advanced by technology, and those advances are only becoming greater.
But a glut of technology creates a level of vulnerability that cuts both ways.

One in four San Antonians do not have access to the internet, which makes them vulnerable to lower education rates and more susceptible to contributing to the highest poverty rate among major metropolitan cities.
From large corporations to mom and pop outfits, businesses in San Antonio are becoming increasingly dependent on technology to accentuate some of their daily process, which is making them vulnerable to cyber-attacks that could cripple their operations and affect their bottom line.

San Antonio has had more technological advances in the past decade than it had the previous 290 years and now it’s full steam ahead as the city tries to assert itself as a player in the tech market. But what does that mean for San Antonio as a cultural city, an impoverished city and a city that’s grappling with its national identity?

WHAT IS TECHNOLOGY?

Technology is the application of tools, science, materials and knowledge to solve problems and extend human capabilities.

Tech Startups

Geekdom, founded in 2011, the city’s first co-working community that gave birth to startups such as Merge VR and Codeup, has been credited with accelerating San Antonio’s tech scene with educational, financial and support resources to help burgeoning startups get off the ground.
